I would add to my response:
If your point is that this isn't a government-mandated issue and we should just be more attentive to what we are saying, let me ask this question: Shouldn't we be getting just as upset about opinion articles which twist the facts and context to stir up hate and divisiveness?
In the span of 24 hours, a Republican state lawmaker in Texas threatened to gun down Beto O’Rourke over the former Congressman’s assault weapons buyback proposal
There is no threat here if Beto O'Rourke doesn't actually show up to take his weapon. It's like me saying, "If you come into my house to rape my wife I'm going to kill you." and you freaking out that I've threatened you.
a conservative PAC put out an inflammatory ad featuring a photo of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-N.Y.) face on fire to reveal skulls
Isn't it only inflammatory if you are for this socialist movement? I watched the ad and people at ABC screened the ad and thought the message was appropriate from the minority family it features in their real-life story of coming face to face with the policies AOC promotes. Calling it inflammatory may help your inflammatory opinion piece but it doesn't make it inflammatory on its face. It's a warning against this "history repeating itself" monkeyboy is lecturing us about over on the other thread.
and Tomi Lahren suggested the need to shoot immigrants on Fox Business.
Again, an absolute distortion of the context and her comments. If we have an open-border policy we better be prepared to defend ourselves. 9/11 and school shootings are going to look like a picnic in the park if we allow people who have no morals and others who hate us to flood into this country unchecked. This isn't a race issue it is a protection issue.
I think my point is well stated in stopping with just this first quote from this opinion. The basis for the entire opinion is one person's graceless and distorted view of other citizens attempting to communicate their feelings about the way our government is run. That free speech does not create violence any more than this opinion which was written which twisted those comments into a call for action calls for violence.
If it is a government solution you are looking for, I say pound sand to the government infringing any more on our liberties.
If it is more civility in conversation and more grace in day-to-day conversations and opinions, start scouring this opinion piece you've posted for the grace you hope to see, you won't find it. It's probably a good place to start asking for it.
